Born in uMthatha, 17 October 1987, in the Eastern Cape, Yanga Ntshakaza grew up in Queenstown just a few hours away from his birthplace. He attended a local boys’ school, Queens College Boys’, from which he matriculated in 2005.

Arriving in Johannesburg in 2006 he began studying towards a BA Audio Visual Producer on Management degree at the University of Johannesburg. In his 2nd year he got a junior position in the SRC. This is where he met Skwata Kamp member Slikour, during an event at the university. This led to Slikour hiring him as a Website Administrator his company Venlaton Productons. Through the watchful eye of the company he was moulded into a music video director, a role which has seen him direct the likes of AKA’s Run Jozi, JR’s Bob Mabena, Kwesta’s Boom Shaka Laka and Kid Xs Cooler Bag videos amongst others.

Yanga got his musical break in 2014 after featuring on AKA’s Run Jozi, he then wasted no time in expressing his talent on the mic by releasing a smooth summer jam AwuthYam in October. He also has an upcoming remix of the same song featuring AKA and KidX. The song is set to drop early next year and is highly anticipated in the streets. November saw him feature on DJ Vigi’s Sorry Makhe alongside KidX, Maggz and L-Tido. The song is a huge December smash and the video is filled with key talking points as it also features a memorable skit from comedian Trevor Gumbi.

Yanga is not one to rest on his laurels and as he preps for his AwuthYamRemix release he just dropped a Freestyle for free download to keep his fans on their toes. The “2015Freestyle” caused a stir as it was hailed on Twitter by local rap stars and media personalities as being a refreshing voice in the hip hop industry. Yanga has a big 2015 ahead of him and he looks sure to deliver if his solo offerings are anything to go by.
