Dj Doowap

My name is Khetsiwe “DJ Doowap” Morgan. I am a half-British-half-South African female creative living in Johannesburg, South Africa. I host an eclectic radio show on the leading youth radio station in South Africa YFM 99.2. My show- which is heavily influenced by electronic bass music- takes place every Wednesday from 9-10am with a repeat from 9-10pm. I am an ASE (Academy of Sound Engineering) Sound Engineering graduate, stylist, hair artist, public figure, and live mix deejay that dabbles in Hip Hop, Trap, Grime, Gqom, and Bass. I also collaborate with female bass rapper and performer Lex LaFoy for whom I DJ.

In 2014 we received an opportunity to be a part of the Purple Velvet Hip Hop tour which took place Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. This collaborative effort was in conjunction with German rapper Sookee and American rapper Shirlette Ammons. In May/June 2016 Lex LaFoy are DJ Doowap are scheduled to return to Europe for another opportunity to perform to members the above-mentioned markets. I relocated to South Africa in 2012 after living and studying sound engineering in London for four years. My love for bass-driven music emerged whilst spending a lot time in the underground music scene, clubs, and various music studios.

On my return to South Africa I enrolled at the Academy Of Sound Engineering in Johannesburg, majoring in Audio Post Production. During my studies I completed a deejay course with DJ4Life, under instructor Iancredible, who would become my mentor and friend. My aim was to further enhance my skills and my ability at live music mixing and the art of deejaying. In 2013 after my first gig at Roxy’s in Melville, I was scouted by YFM 99.2 and began my journey as a radio hostess on the Hot 99 Dubstep chart. I focus most of my attention on live mixing and have played at numerous prestigious events such as: OppiKoppi (Odessey), SUMO!’s famous house parties, Zone 6 (Soweto), Throwback ChillOut (Randlords), Kitcheners (Braamfontein), Inner City Outer Space (And Nightclub), Great Dane Braamfontein), and Tofo Ocean Festival (Mozambique) – to name a few.

In 2015 I decided to travel solo to Europe for a summer tour to ingest some valuable knowledge on what the European music scene is investing in and was also fortunate enough to play at several events, some of which included: Berlin Female Focus Festival and one of the Berlin Fashion Week after parties hosted by Eve Without Adam. I have worked with and continue to have seeding relationships with corporate brands such as: Nike, Ray-Ban, Woolworths SA, Legit, G-STAR RAW, Red Bull, and Levis.
